It is renowned as the "Hometown of Chinese Martial Arts," the "Hometown of Chinese Poetry," and the "Hometown of Chinese Heroines." The Meishan culture and the tradition of balancing farm work with scholarly pursuits have been preserved here, and it has given birth to a great number of distinguished figures, including Jiang Wan, Zeng Guofan, Zeng Jize, Chen Tianhua, Cai Hesen, Luo Shengjiao, Xie Bingying, and Cheng Fangwu. It is upon this fertile and gifted land of Xiangzhong that Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology was nurtured, and for more than four decades, it has embarked upon and continued its journey of pursuing dreams.

The sound of learning never ceases; spring blossoms yield autumn fruits. Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology is a provincial comprehensive public undergraduate institution. Its origins trace back to the Liuyuan Normal College Class, established in September 1978, and it subsequently evolved through stages such as the Liuyuan Branch of Hunan Normal College and Loudi Teachers College. Since its founding, the university has basked in the spring breeze of Reform and Opening-up, absorbed the spiritual vitality of the blessed land of Xiangzhong, and inherited the cultural lineage of Huxiang tradition. Upholding the motto of "Planning for the near to reach the far, nurturing the roots to await the fruit," and fostering the ethos of "Talent foremost, benevolence filling the campus," it has gradually cultivated an excellent spiritual tradition and distinctive educational characteristics through accumulated efforts. The university has produced numerous distinguished educators, business elites, and pillars of statecraft, making positive contributions to social progress and the advancement of civilization. The university has been honored with titles such as Hunan Provincial Model Unit of Civilization, Hunan Provincial Excellent Unit for Graduate Employment under the "Top-Priority Project," National Advanced Unit for University Student Social Practice Activities, Hunan Provincial Advanced Unit for Comprehensive Social Governance, Hunan Provincial Safe Unit, and one of Hunan Province's Top Ten Safe Schools (one of only three universities in the province to receive this distinction). The university is also a demonstration school for law-based governance in Hunan Province, a demonstration school for graduate employment and entrepreneurship in Hunan Province, and a member institution of the China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance. It is acclaimed as "an undergraduate institution full of vitality, popularity, vigor, confidence, and love."

Pooling our efforts, we forge ahead with innovation. In recent years, with the strong support of all sectors of society and our alumni, the university has grounded itself in practical development, vigorously promoted transformational development, connotative development, and characteristic development, and mobilized the entire university to actively advance the construction of a high-level applied university. Consequently, all undertakings have achieved considerable progress. The university was upgraded to an undergraduate institution and renamed Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology in 2004. In 2011, it obtained the pilot qualification for cultivating professional master's degree graduate students in agricultural extension under the "Serving National Special Needs" program. In 2012, it passed the Ministry of Education's qualification assessment for undergraduate teaching work. In 2017, it became a project-construction unit for master's degree conferment in Hunan Province. In 2018, it was designated as a "Double First-Class" high-level applied characteristic college in Hunan Province.
